LAHORE, Oct 19: The Punjab transport department on Thursday decided to constitute special teams for checking overcharging by transporters on Eidul Fitr.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held here with Punjab Transport Minister Rana Shamshad Ahmad in the chair.

The teams will check buses at stands and on routes and impose on-the-spot fines on transporters found charging excessive fares. The teams would also be authorised to cancel route permits of buses.

The minister also issued instructions to district coordination officers of Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur to take steps for checking overcharging by transporters during Eid days in their capacity as chairmen of district regional transport authorities.
