ISLAMABAD Oct 18: The 38th session of the National Assembly is likely to be held from Oct 30 till Nov 10 to complete the constitutional requirement of completing 130 days in a calendar year. The session is likely to discuss and adopt controversial Protection of Women Rights (PWR) bill.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sher Afgan Khan Niazi told Dawn on Wednesday that the lower house would extend its sitting by six days in order to take up about 15 legislative bills, including the PWR bill passed.

The Senate would also hold its session during the period, the minister said.

He said that 15 bills, including the agreed bill about Pemra, two of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the FPSC would be tabled in the house apart from the PWR bill which would be on top of the agenda.

He said his ministry sent a summary to the president.

He brushed aside Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s threat of resigning from assemblies if the draft of the PWR bill approved by the NA select committee without incorporation of the amendments proposed by the ulema committee, and said: “We have heard many such threats in the past.”—Staff Reporter
