PESHAWAR, Feb 14: A victim of alleged police torture, Shakir Khan, has urged the provincial governor, inspector-general of police and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan to pay heed to the issue and rescue his brother, who was kept in illegal detention and implicated in a dacoity case.

The victim was speaking to newsmen on Wednesday at Pabbi Satellite Hospital in Nowshera where he has been undergoing treatment after police torture. First, Shakir said, the police arrested him in connection with a dacoity occurred at Zakir Medical Store and kept him in illegal detention for 36 hours. “During that period I was severely beaten, stripped naked and they put red chilly powder into my eyes,” he said.

Showing his wounds to newsmen, the victim said he had been told to give a statement against his brother, Sareer Khan. Later on Feb 7, he said, Sareer was picked up.

Shakir said that Sareer was not produced before any court until Wednesday after his relatives had raised hue and cry.

Shakir said Sareer was sent to prison in critical condition as, due to excessive torture, his kidneys had stopped functioning.
