Wapda, Siemens sign contract

KARACHI, Oct 17: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and a consortium of Siemens AG Germany and Siemens Pakistan Engineering Company signed a contract for the construction of a new 500/220/132kv sub-station at Gakhar.

This was announced in a statement issued by Siemens Pakistan here on Tuesday. It said the sub-station, with a capacity of 1200mva, will help improve Wapda's network and power supply in the Gujranwala area administered by Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO).The project, which is financed by KFW, German financial institution, will cost around Rs3.9 billion and will be completed by October 2008.

Munawwar Ahmed Malik, chief engineer EHV, Wapda, and Joachim Heyl, vice-president of HV sub-station department of Siemens Germany, and Suhail Anwer, general manager, Siemens Pakistan, signed the contract.—APP
