NEW DELHI, Oct 16: The Indian police on Monday arrested two suspected militants planning attacks in the capital around the biggest Hindu festival, Diwali, this weekend, an official said.

Mohammad Alamgir and Abdul Razzaq were arrested when they got off a train that reached New Delhi from Jammu, the winter capital of revolt-torn Indian Kashmir.

The men, believed to be Bangladeshi nationals, were carrying 1.5 kg of powerful RDX explosives, police said.

“These are Lashkar operatives,” senior police officer Alok Kumar told private news channel NDTV, referring to Lashkar-i-Tayyaba.

“They are essentially Bangladeshis who had entered from the Bangladesh border,” he said.

“Preliminary interrogation has revealed they were planning some major strikes in Delhi.”—Agencies
