KUNDIAN, Oct 15: MMA leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that free and fair elections are not possible under President Gen Pervez Musharraf and his alliance will not take part in sham polls.

Addressing a ceremony at Khanqah Serajia here on Sunday, he said that the MMA was not going for any deal with the government and termed it sheer propaganda.

“We stand by our stance on women’s protection bill and Hudood amendment bill and will not support the government on the un-Islamic and anti-Shariah bills. The government wants to please the US by amending the Hudood bill,” he said.

He announced that MMA would launch anti-government movement after Eidul Fitr and would forge a greater alliance. “We are in contact with other political and religious parties to launch a campaign against the government.”

He denied any differences between the MMA component parties.—Online
