Eight prisoners to arrive today

ISLAMABAD, Oct 15: Eight Pakistani prisoners released from Guantanamo Bay prison facility and Bagram airbase could not arrive in Pakistan on Sunday due to lack of arrangements and they would be reaching here on Monday.

This was stated by the head of the National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC), Brig Javed Iqbal Cheema here on Sunday.

He said two Pakistani prisoners were shifted from Guantanamo bay to the US air base at Bagram in Afghanistan. Six Pakistani prisoners were to arrive in Pakistan from the Bagram airbase and two from Guantanamo Bay on Sunday but they could not reach due to lack of arrangements.

US authorities have sent a message saying that these Pakistanis would arrive in Pakistan in the early hours on Monday.

He said that NCMC had made special efforts to secure release of these prisoners and meetings had been held with US authorities in this connection.

Visit of Guantanamo Bay prison facility was also undertaken besides the Bagram Air base.—Online
