ISLAMABAD, Oct 15: A police investigation conducted on the directive of the Chief Justice of Pakistan has found that the charge of involvement in a triple murder against a reporter of a local English daily was not correct, sources told Dawn on Sunday.

The name of Shakeel Anjum of The News was included in the FIR about the murder of arms dealer Nawaz Khokhar, his son Kashif Nawaz and nephew Abid Khokhar, by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shahzad Town, Idrees Rathore. The three persons were gunned down on September 16.

Taking suo motu action of a news item, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry ordered the inspector-general of Islamabad police to submit a report to him by October 6. However, the CJP adjourned the hearing till October 16, giving 10 days to the police for completing the investigation.

The capital police will submit the report to the chief justice on Monday (today). The report said the police had implicated him in the triple murder case for their own vested interest.

The sources said the SHO had forced complainant Saqib Nawaz, a son of Nawaz Khokhar, to include the journalist in his complaint and his name was written at the end of the FIR.

The police nominated the journalist on the complaint of Saqib Nawaz who had alleged that the medico-legal certificate of his father had been tampered with by the MLO on Mr Anjum’s pressure.

The SHO alleged that Mr Anjum had taken Rs100,000 bribe in two instalments from the family members of the killers of Mr Khokhar to weaken the case.
