KARACHI, Oct 13: Two policemen were killed while another received injuries in two different incidents since late Thursday night in different parts of the city.

According to police, Constable Meher Ali, 33 and Mohammad Ishaq Jokio, 38, were patrolling on their motorcycle when unknown persons opened fire on them near Cattle Colony late Thursday night.

The policemen were taken to the Jinnah Hospital from where they were referred to Aga Khan Hospital; however, Ishaq succumbed to his wounds on his way to the Aga Khan Hospital. Later in the morning, Meher Ali also died during treatment, police said.

The two constables were posted at Shah Latif police station for the last six months. On Friday morning, their bodies were sent to their native village of Khairpur.

On Friday, Head Constable Ghulam Ghous, 37, was shot at several times by two unknown persons on a motorcycle near Malir Bridge. Police said that the head constable was the driver of TPO Bin Qasim.

He was rushed to the Aga Khan Hospital where he was admitted and underwent surgery. Commenting on the two incidents, CCPO Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui termed Friday’s incident as a target killing.

Referring to the Thursday night’s incident, the CCPO said that it was not a case of target killing. He said according to the initial investigation, some bandits were already present at that spot to carry out some hold-up. The directions of the bullets which have been fired at the two policemen suggest that it was not target killing, CCPO added.

ACCIDENT: A young motorcyclist died in a road accident in Liaquatabad on Friday. Police said that Tariq was passing through the Teen Hati Bridge when a speeding truck hit his two-wheeler.

The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said that the errant driver managed to escape along with the vehicle.
