ASTORE (Gilgit), Oct 11: Chief Secretary Northern Areas Imtiaz Hussain Qazi has distributed cheques among heirs of flood victims of the Miordo village of district Astore.

The compensation package includes Rs100,000 each for the next of kin of the dead.

Mr Qazi expressed deep sympathies with the affected families over the loss of lives and colossal damage to property in the village following flash floods caused by heavy rain which destroyed standing crops and muddy houses in the Miordo village. He also received applications from the people.

He visited the village to personally inspect the loss of crops and damages to properties.

He announced that alternative land would be provided to the affected people, adding that the Works Department would make all out efforts to provide clean drinking water to the area.

He commended the local administration for taking prompt action to help the affected families and carry out rehabilitation work there.

He also inspected a dispensary and directed the Health Department to provide all necessary medical facilities to the people of the area.—APP
