Five killed in road accident

RAWALPINDI, Oct 7: Five persons including a woman were killed, while 15 others were injured when a wagon crashed into a roadside tree near Rawat on Saturday.

Police said that an over crowded wagon (RPT-4205) was going to Chontra when the driver lost control over the vehicle due to over-speed. As a result, the wagon crashed into a roadside tree, killing four passengers on the spot and injuring others.

The victims were pulled out of the wreckage and shifted to the Rawalpindi District Headquarters Hospital where one of the injured, identified as Mohammad Sadiq, died raising the death toll to five.

According to hospital sources, two of the injured are in critical condition. The dead were identified as driver Mohammad Latif, Nazakat Ali, Lal Bibi, Zahid Hussain and Sadiq. While the injured included Tanveer Shafaqat, Suleman, Noor Jhan, Mohammad Shakil, Mohammad Sadiq, Khalid Mehmood, Ishtiaq, Akhtar, Fakhur Nisa, Munir Banaras, Sophian, Asad and Saleem.—Staff Reporter
