PESHAWAR, Oct 7: NWFP Additional Chief Secretary Ghulam Dastagir Akhtar has called upon the authorities concerned to make coordinated efforts to eradicate polio from the province.
He was presiding over a meeting convened on Saturday to review arrangements for a special polio campaign to be launched in settled as well as tribal areas.
The meeting decided that education, social welfare departments, NGOs, SRSP and NCHD will also participate in the campaign. While necessary staff will be appointed on regular basis on the notified crossing points of Pakistan-Afghan border, political administration will provide space for this purpose.
The meeting also decided that DCOs and political administration will provide transport facility and logistic support to polio teams. The meeting decided that necessary legislation would be carried out for giving punishment to the parents who refused polio vaccination to their children.
The meeting was attended by government officials, representatives of WHO and UNICEF and DCOs. The campaign will start from Oct 10 and continue for three days in Peshawar, Bannu, D.I.Khan, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Khyber Agency, Bajour Agency, North and South Waziristan.
