LARKANA, Oct 5: About 18 people, including children, were brought to the Chandka Medical College Hospital Larkana from Allahabad Bhutto village of Garhi Khairo (Jacobabad) and Faqeer Mohammed village near Dokri (Larkana) on Thursday when they fell ill after consuming poisonous food.
The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Garhi Khairo police station of the Jacobabad district where villagers fainted after they eating contaminated meal of pulses and bread.
The children are said to be in a serious condition.
They are: two-year-old Sarwar Leghari, four-year-old Khameeso, four-year-old Murtaza Leghari and five-year-old Shama Leghari.
Other patients were identified as Latifan Leghari, Shehzadi Leghari, Najma Leghari, Ghinwa Leghari, Javed Leghari, Khadija Leghari and Shahzado Leghari.
The condition of child Sarwar Leghari was said to be precarious.
In another incident, six people were shifted to the CMCH from Faqeer Mohammed village on the outskirts of Dokri town of Larkana district when they ate poisonous fish.
They were identified as Arif Ali, Sheran, Hamidan, Saira, Ashraf and Farida.
ACCIDENT: A four-year-old girl was killed and five other people were injured when a Karachi-bond car overturned while negotiating a turn near Nasirabad on the Indus highway on Thursday.
The car driver lost control over the steering which caused the accident. The deceased was identified as Meeman.
Preetamdas, Okaish, Sunita, Ajay and Muskan were admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital where they were improving.
TEACHERS’ DAY: The World Teachers’ Day was observed in Larkana district on Thursday.
Speakers at a function jointly organised by the education department and the National Commission for Human Development said that teachers play important role in nation building.
EDO (education) Professor Shahnawaz Memon, NCHD Larkana general-manager Maqsood Baloch said that teaching was a noble profession.
They said that the NCHD had expended its operations regarding education, literacy, health and volunteerism for community development and capacity building programme in 50 districts across the country.
