Protest against power outage

NAWABSHAH, Oct 4: Residents of Azeem and Bhangwar Colony staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Wednesday against non-replacement of electric transformer for last 48 hours.

Protesters were led by Kamaluddin Memon, Abdul Wahab and Anwar Ali Abbasi raised slogans against Hesco. They said that the transformer of their area was non-functional from Monday due to which there was no electricity.

They further said that the weather was still humid and hot and the holy month of Ramazan was continuing but their lives were miserable and their families were suffering.

They said that they made several complaints to the concerned Hesco office but in vain.

They demanded of the Hesco chief executive to restore their power supply by issuing directives to Hesco staff for replacing faulty transformer.

DEMO: Rickshaw drivers staged a demonstration on Wednesday outside the railway station to protest against traffic police.

Having parked their rickshaws across the road they chanted slogans against the traffic police and said that the police’s injustices were increasing by each passing day.

When a rickshaw driver, Mir Ahmed, asked for fare from a traffic cop he had brought to railway station, the policeman challaned him instead, they said.

They said that truck drivers, motorcyclists and van drivers were equally victims of traffic policemen and demanded that the DPO take strict action against the corrupt and negligent officers.

Passengers suffer: The passengers of Balochistan Express who were travelling from Quetta to Karachi had to go through long wait after the train’s engine broke down at Daur railway station early on Wednesday morning.

The engine developed fault at 3.55 am and the passengers were able to resume their journey after more than two hours after an alternate engine was arranged.

The delay also caused the passengers of Sukkur Express to put up with long wait as their train had to be stopped at another station while Balochistan Express was being repaired.

COTTON GUTTED: Rs35 million worth 30,000 maunds of cotton were reduced to ashes when fire broke out in Sakhi Jam Dattar cotton factory in Jam Saheb on Monday.

The cause of the fire could not be known, said Motto Mal, the factory’s owner.

Fire brigade staff was busy extinguishing the fire by the time the report was filed.
