GUJRANWALA, Oct 3: The police failure to initiate timely action against criminals induce them to commit one offence after another to silence the complainants, as yet another incident has taken place in Gujranwala district.

This is the third incident of this nature in the last less than a month and the police have failed to provide protection to the complainants.

Some proclaimed offenders on Tuesday kidnapped a woman who is an eyewitness to a murder case and her two minor children to stop her from recording statement against them at Puranpur village in Aimanabad.

Reports said murder eyewitness Uzma Bibi, together with her two children — Ali Raza, 5, and Hasnain, 2, was on her way home by a motorcycle-rickshaw when POs Suleman, Zulqernain, Imtiaz and Imran stopped them. They bundled the woman and her children in a car which drove them to an unknown place.

The police have registered a case against the POs.

ENCROACHMENT: The Qila Deedar Singh Town will again launch an operation against encroachments in the city in collaboration with the traders after Eidul Fitr.

This was stated by Town Nazim Mian Tariq Javed at a meeting here on Tuesday. He said the town administration had started the operation against encroachments and demolished the illegally-extended projections besides seizing the effects of shopkeepers.

However, various trade organisations requested the district administration to keep the operation pending till Eid. They would be taken into confidence before resuming the drive, he added.

SANITARY STAFF: Sanitary workers of Aroop Town on Tuesday staged a sit-in outside the district administration office for not releasing their three-month salaries.

Reports said as many as 300 sanitary workers could not be paid their salaries as the City District Government Gujranwala (CDGG) had not released funds.

The protesters claimed that their children had been expelled from schools due to non-payment of fee.

They dispersed peacefully when District Coordination Officer Manzer Hayat assured them to release their salaries at the earliest.

SUMMONED: The district and sessions judge has summoned lawyers on Wednesday (today) who had allegedly manhandled a complainant during the hearing of a case.

Reports said about six lawyers had manhandled Tanvir for pursuing the case on his own. The latter filed a contempt of court petition against the lawyers with the district and sessions judge.

CHARGESHEET: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 on Tuesday issued the chargesheet to the accused nominated in the murder of eight Ahmadis of Mandi Bahauddin.
