KUWAIT CITY, Oct 1: The Kuwait municipality’s Committee for Food Safety has said that fish imported from Pakistan and Iran is safe for consumption. It which was earlier banned due to fear that it carried cancer-causing bacteria.

In a press report, Mohammad Al Otaibi, the chairman of the committee, said that the committee had carried out tests on fish imported from the two countries and found bacteria called “NAG” in them.

He said the microbes, which spread in the sea at the end of summer and beginning of autumn, did not cause cancer or epidemics as feared earlier.

Mr Al Otaibi said that the committee had followed the case locally, regionally and internationally and had coordinated with all concerned.
