BLANTYRE, Sept 30: Malawi have fired German coach Burkhard Ziese a week before they are due to host Zimbabwe in an African Nations Cup qualifier, the Football Association of Malawi announced.

He has been replaced by Kinnah Phiri, who returns for a second a spell in charge of the team.

Ziese, who has contract until the end of next year, was dismissed for alleged breaches of the terms of his deal with the association, FAM president Walter Nyamilandu said.

The veteran German coach, who has a growing list of coaching failures on the continent, was accused of swearing at players and showing disrespect to officials.—Reuters
