Action against lawyers sought

GUJRANWALA, Sept 29: The judge of a local court has sought action against lawyers from the district and sessions judge for manhandling the complainant during court proceedings in a land-grabbing case here on Friday.

Reports said that complainant Tanvir Hussain was pursuing the case himself while lawyers of accused Talib Gujjar and others exchanged hot words with him. Later in rage, the lawyers manhandled the complainant in the presence of the judge. The naib court and other people rescued Tanvir Hussain.

The complainant lodged a report against lawyers with the Civil Lines police.

IMPRISONMENT: A local court awarded jail term with a fine of Rs10,000 each to some half-a-dozen convicts while four accused were declared proclaimed offenders in a land-grabbing case here on Friday.

Convicts Zafer, Zahoor, Akber, Rashid, Shafiq and Rafiq were handed down imprisonment while accused Tariq, Sajjad, Idris and Amjad Ali were declared POs.

According to the prosecution, convicts had occupied 14 kanal and 10 marla agricultural land of the complainant in Thakerki village a few years ago. — Correspondent
