GRID STATIONS: Five new grid stations are being set up at an estimated cost of Rs1 billion while six stations have been upgraded to reduce power fluctuations and stabilise distribution system.

This was said by Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) chief executive officer Brig Tariq Rasool (retired) while talking to newsmen here on Wednesday.

He claimed that with the installation of new grid stations, uninterrupted power supply to the existing and proposed industrial areas would be ensured.

However, six grid stations had been upgraded with an amount of Rs20 million and a 7.5 MVA power transformer of 66KV Pathankot grid station had been replaced with 10/13 MVA, he said.

The Jaranwala and Bandala grid stations had also been upgraded with the installation of 10/13 MVA transformers, Mr Rasool said and added that grid stations of remote areas, including 66KV Toba and Pir Mehal, had also been improved.

Similarly, the 66KV grid stations of Satiana, Summandri, Shahpur and Chuttiana had also been upgraded to 132KV and the remaining upgradation work would be completed within a few months, he said.

Regarding the establishment of new grid stations, he said Chak 103-RB, Thekriwala, Khanuwana, Hazoorpur and Bhera industrial area had been selected and initial work at some locations had been started.

He said transmission lines were being stabilised to resolve the problems of low voltage and forced loadshedding. Another attempt was being made for smooth power supply by replacing 3,000 overloaded distribution transformers.

The Fesco chief said the company had recovered Rs31.74 billion during 2004-05 and efforts were being made to augment the recovery system. As many as 2,505 villages had also been electrified at a cost of Rs1.5 billion.

He claimed that line losses had also been reduced from 10.1 per cent to 9.9 and added that Fesco was the only company having single digit line losses in the country.

OFFICE-BEARERS: Mian Aftab Ahmed and Sheikh Nazim Shehzad were elected unopposed regional chairman and vice-chairman, respectively of All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA) here on Wednesday.

They urged the government to announce a special package for APTPMA members so that they could be able to meet the emerging challenges.
