MITHI, Sept 26: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that the government has decided to build small dams in hilly areas of Tharparkar to store rainwater which can be used for drinking and irrigation.

He said that stream water flowing down the Karoonjhar mountain was wasted into the Rann of Kutch.

Speaking at a gathering in Lakhi Jo Wandhio village near Nagarparkar on Tuesday, the chief minister ordered that a feasibility report be prepared on small dams proposed to be built in the area.

The chief minister inspected the proposed site for rainwater storage reservoir.

The project director of Salinity Control and Reclamation Project informed the chief minister that the proposed dam near Lakhe Jo Wadhio would cost about Rs32 million. Its capacity will be 6,500 acre feet.

The chief minister also inspected under-construction road from Virawah to Nagarparkar and bridges on it.

Addressing a gathering in Nagarparkar, he said that there were a number of historical places in Nagarparkar and a large number of tourists arrived there every year.

He said that tourists faced problems because of lack of lodging and boarding facility rest and, therefore, the government had decided to build a large rest-house near Bhodesar.
