SAHIWAL, Sept 26: The NBP regional chief has recommended dismissal of a bank manager for withdrawing Rs3.714 million from a Chak 116/9-L branch on fake passbooks while the latter has deposited the entire amount with the bank.

Reports said NBP manager Sardar Zameer Husain on 14 fake agricultural passbooks in different names had withdrawn the amount. The fraud surfaced when Zameer Husain was transferred and Irshad Husain assumed the office of bank manager and found that all the 14 passbooks were prepared by a single patwari and processed with bogus signatures of a tehsildar.

Taking notice of the scandal, the regional chief appointed Rana Liaquat Ali and Shahid Amin as inquiry officers who worked out the amount to the tune of Rs3.714 million.

Mr Zameer Husain has deposited the entire amount while the case will be sent to FIA for forging signatures.

DISTILLERIES: Police on Tuesday unearthed three distilleries and arrested three people after raids at Chak 90/6-R and Asdullahpur.

The Farid Town police raided an outhouse of Irshad Ahmed at Chak 90/6-R, arrested him and seized 15 bottles and equipment.
