ISLAMABAD, Sept 23: The housing and livelihood cash grants provided by the government to the people affected by earthquake have been exempted from Zakat.

On the request of the Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (Erra), the federal Ministry for Religious Affairs, Zakat and Ushr had issued a notification on exemption from compulsory deduction on first of Ramazan given to the quake-hit people having the amount received in grant in their bank accounts.

A similar notification has also been issued by the department of Zakat and Ushr of the AJK.
