PESHAWAR, Sept 23: The Awami National Party has demanded formation of Gurgori North-Western Gas Company with its head office in the province.

ANP’s provincial executive council, which met here on Friday, asked the federal government to accept the province’s rights on oil and gas resources and allocate proper share in the royalty of gas production to Karak district, said a press release that was issued here on Saturday.

The council demanded installation of an oil refinery in Karak, while the gas company should construct vocational institutions, schools, roads and hospitals in the district.

The party expressed concern over deteriorating law and order situation in the province, particularly in the Peshawar district and urged the government to establish an effective security system.

The party regretted the slow pace of work in earthquake-hit districts of the NWFP and urged the provincial government to announce special Ramazan package for affected families.

It urged the government to ensure transparency in reconstruction fund utilisation in quake-hit areas and said that despite distribution of billion of rupees, a large number of people were yet to receive compensation.

The press release said that federal and provincial governments had failed to compensate families affected by flood and rain in Charsadda, Mardan and elsewhere in the province.

It also called for initiating a probe into the distribution of funds released for flood-hit areas.

The council asked the federal and provincial government to reduce admission and tuition fees in public sector colleges and universities to enable middle class to continue higher education and also give equal share in foreign scholarships to the province.
