Assailants kill two in police custody

TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 21: Two dacoity accused were killed while a constable sustained serious injuries when some unidentified assailants opened fire on a police vehicle on Gojra-Dijkot Road on Thursday.

Reports said that the police vehicle, headed by Sub-Inspector Muhammad Aslam, was taking accused Iqbal and Yousuf to Dijkot for the recovery of looted valuables when assailants opened fire on them. As a result, both the accused died on the spot while constable Muhammad Boota suffered serious bullet wounds. He was admitted to the Gojra THQ Hospital in serious condition.

Killed: A man died and four others injured seriously when a pick-up overturned near Dabanwala canal bridge on Thursday.

The pick-up was going from Rajana to Toba when the accident took place due to over speeding as a result of five people, Asif of Chak 307 JB, Abdul Sattar of Khushab, Naeem of Chak 517 GB, Shah Hasan of Chak 335 GB and Rashid of Chak 339 GB sustained severe injuries. They were admitted to the DHQ hospital where Asif succumbed to his wounds.

The driver fled from the scene.

HELD: Toba DPO Akhtar Laleka said here at a press conference on Thursday evening that Arrouti police have arrested the killers of Saeen Baba Mukhtar, the sajjada nasheen (caretaker) of a shrine.

He said the deceased had given an amulet to the ailing sister of accused Amer Raza of Kamalia but instead of her recovery from illness her ailment aggravated and her engagement was also broken.

To take revenge, Amer and his accomplices Sharif, Israr and Noor Muhammad kidnapped Baba Mukhtar and strangled him to death. They threw his body into Jorian canal, he added.

The DPO claimed that the police also recovered the car used for the crime.
