KARACHI, Sept 21: The City District Government Karachi has decided to finalise a coordinated and comprehensive Master Plan for equipping the Sindh megapolis with modern infrastructure and turn it into a lucrative, developed and beautiful economic hub.

This was decided in a meeting on Thursday presided over by Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and attended. It was attended by deputy chairman of the Planning Commission Dr Akram Shaikh along with members of the Coordination Committee on Development and Management of Large Cities. Other participants included provincial ministers Syed Sardar Ahmed, Sadruddin Shah Rashdi, Syed Shoaib Bukhari, Nadir Akmal Leghari, Advisors M.A. Jalil and Waseem Akhtar, Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal, additional chief secretaries, Principal Secretary Saleem Khan and the director-general of military lands and cantonments and officials of other Karachi-based federal government organisations.

It was decided that the City Government would finalise the Karachi Strategic Master Plan 2020 in the next two months and it would be implemented through authorised institutions.

All stakeholders, including the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and other development institutions would assist the government within a month in accordance with their planning.

The meeting agreed that after the approval of the proposed master plan, all stakeholders, including Karachi-based federal organisations, would carry out their development activities and provision of civic facilities in accordance with the master plan.

The governor directed the Coordination Board, headed by the nazim Karachi, to play a functional role in this regard.

Earlier, the deputy chairman of the Planning Commission highlighted the megapolis’ importance for the country and assured the meeting about maximum cooperation from federal government and the Planning Commission.—APP
