KARACHI, Sept 21: A lady doctor was shot dead by suspects during a purse snatching attempt in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Thursday.

Police said Dr Shazia and her husband had gone to a shoe shop in Block 17 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar after collecting children from school.

As her husband was still inside the shop, Dr Shazia came out to buy fruit from a vendor. Meanwhile two suspects on a motorcycle appeared there and tried to snatch her purse.

Police said that as the woman resisted the purse snatching attempt, the suspects opened fire at her and fled without taking the purse.

The victim was rushed to the nearby Darul Sehat Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Later her corpse was shifted to the Jinnah Hospital for legal formalities. Hospital sources said Dr Shazia had suffered a bullet wound in the abdomen.

In another incident of cash snatching two persons were killed in the Landhi area on Thursday. Police said that after withdrawing cash from a bank, Dilawar was heading to his house in a taxi in Landhi in the limits of Sharafi goth.

Two suspects who had been following him tried to intercept him at the gate of his house, but Dilawar managed to get inside the house. Subsequently, his brother Salamat came out of the house and attempted to catch hold of a bandit. However, he fired a gunshot at Salamat.

Hearing the gunfire people of the area gathered and managed to get hold of a suspect. However, his accomplice managed to escape. People of the area gave a sever beating to the suspect. Both the injured were taken to the Jinnah Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
