MIANWALI, Sept 17: The students of the Government Girls Primary School, Namal, await continuation of educational activity since the end of summer vacation, as the teachers as well as the district authorities concerned seemed to have no interest in performing their respective duties.

The parents of the affected students said the teachers appointed at the school lived at far away places and often remained absent on one or other pretext.

They also deplored the attitude of the district education high-ups who never bothered to take any steps to improve the situation despite being repeatedly informed of the mess.

A social worker Malik Hafeezullah Awan told Dawn that more than 50 girl students of the school had also been denied the free books to be provided under Punjab governments’ “Parha Likha Punjab” scheme.

He said that the district monitoring officer (education) was informed of the situation but he took no action against the staff concerned.

Under these circumstances, the parents, most of them poor, had no other option but to send their wards to mushrooming private schools where fees were exorbitant.

The area people demanded that Punjab chief minister should take stock of the situation and order action against the officials responsible for the scenario.
