SUKKUR: Sukkur getting polluted water

SUKKUR, Sept 17: The city is being provided contaminated water for months by the taluka council. As a result, there are widespread complaints of gastroenteritis and other water-borne diseases.

Sources said that drinking water is being supplied to residents without filtration. The stinking water is not fit for human consumption.

Water of hand pumps installed in low-lying areas of the city has also become polluted and unfit for human consumption.

Many complains have been made to the taluka council but the authorities are paying no heed to the problem.

Some officials of the taluka council requesting anonymity told Dawn that the sewerage line and water supply lines had get linked at various places due to which drinking water had become contaminated.

The residents demanded that the taluka council authorities should take notice of the supply of contaminated water to citizens and adopt measures to supply filtered water to inmates to save them from water related ailments.

Almost all the main roads and streets often remain accumulated with sewerage water causing hardships to the people especially women and children.

The residents told this correspondent that the sanitation staff of the taluka council was not performing duties and working at residences of officers of the taluka council and other high ups.

They demanded that authorities should provide civic amenities to people for which they were paying regular taxes.
