ISLAMABAD, Sept 15: Senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani and President of Democratic Freedom Party Shabbir Ahmed Shah were placed under house arrest in occupied Kashmir on Friday while police arrested Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League Mussarrat Alam Butt from his house.

Two police contingents simultaneously laid a cordon off around Hyderpora and Rawalpora residences of Syed Ali Gilani and Shabbir Shah respectively at around 5am and asked them not to venture out, PTV reported.

Syed Ali Gilani was put under house arrest because he was scheduled to pay a visit to Hajan in Baramulla to lead a protest demonstration against state-terrorism. —APP
