PESHAWAR, Sept 13: The Awami National Party has approved amendments to its constitution enabling its current office-bearers to contest party elections for the third time.

According to a press release, the ANP central council approved the amendments in its meeting presided over by the party’s president Asfandyar Wali at Bacha Khan Markaz on Wednesday.

ANP information secretary Zahid Khan told Dawn that the party’s central council could allow the office-bearers to contest election for the third time and the changes made to the constitution were not specifically for Mr Wali.

Speaking at the meeting, Senator Wali condemned the assassination of former Balochistan governor Nawab Akber Bugti and alleged that the establishment had given a message to the nationalist forces through the murder.

“The establishment has waged a war against the nationalist forces by killing Nawab Bugti, but the Awami National Party accepts this challenge,” he said.
