PESHAWAR, Sept 11: Pakistan Army Medical Corps remained committed to providing health care to under-privileged people of tribal areas by setting up free medical camps in Fata regularly, said a press release of ISPR here on Monday.

According to socio-economic indicators of Fata, one doctor is available for 5,700 people and one hospital bed for about 2,000. This indicates deficiency in basic health infrastructure in tribal agencies.

Since 2001, 330 free medical camps have been established by army where 469,351 patients, were provided medical care. In addition 794 eye surgeries have also been carried out by the eye specialists in these medical camps. Lady doctors of Army Medical Corps are specially detailed to examine female patients in these medical camps.

Medicines over Rs 40 million have so far been given to the patients free of cost in these medical camps.

As part of defence day celebrations, a number of medical camps were specially established from Sept 6 to 8 and free treatment was provided to a large number of patients.
