KARACHI, Feb 12: The Inspector-General of the Sindh Police, Syed Kamal Shah, said here on Tuesday that community police officer would be appointed in each police station to promote community policing under the new system introduced recently.

Speaking to police officers at a briefing in Shah Faisal Town, he said the officer would be responsible for maintaining liaison between police and the public of the area and bridge the gap between the two which would be helpful in combating crime.

The Central Police Office would also be responsible for solving other social problems of the people, he added.

The IG instructed that the officers of DSP rank awaiting posting should be posted without further delay and their services be used in investigation and other sections. He said more than 100 investigation teams had been constituted in Karachi to investigate cases and those would have no concern with law and order duties.

The expenditures to be incurred on investigation would be borne by the government and funds for this were expected to be released soon. Police would also be provided with new vehicles fitted with wireless, besides old vehicles were being repaired to overcome the shortage of transport facilities, he said.

Mr Shah asked police officials to ensure that FIRs were lodged at the residence of complainant.—PPI
