KARACHI, Sept 8: Capital City Police Officer Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui has directed the traffic police personnel not to stop vehicles for checking of papers while ensuring drivers’ strict compliance with traffic rules.

Legal action should be taken only against those who were found violating traffic rules, he said in the directives issued to the traffic police personnel on Friday.

He specifically directed them to check papers of vehicles under the supervision of the concerned SP Traffic as no officer below the rank was authorised to check vehicle papers.

The CCPO further stated that the traffic police personnel deployed at signals should remain at the place of their duty only should not leave the signal to stop the passing vehicles or check those standing away from the signal poles.

He impressed upon those on duty at signals to guide drivers in a polite way about traffic rules, including speed limit and following the signal.

He ordered all section officers and other personnel to discharge their duties efficiently, especially in peak hours, and asked the DSPs and SPs to actively supervise them to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

He said that the DIG Traffic would monitor compliance of all these orders whereas he himself would monitor the compliance.—PPI
