News report clarified

HYDERABAD, Sept 6: The senior general manager of the National Commission for Human Development, Sindh, has clarified that the commission started operation in the Nawabshah district only a month ago.

In a statement faxed on Wednesday in reply to a news report appeared in Dawn on Sept 6, senior general manager Sohail Rajput said the commission was working at a preliminary stage of providing support to the district education department for conducting a baseline house-to-house survey of children eligible for enrolment in primary schools.

He said that after the survey was over, the education department of the district would be provided with support in getting these children enrolled.

Therefore, he said, the issue of reopening of closed schools in Nawabshah as reported in the newspaper was not pertinent at this stage and any criticism of the commission on this account was premature.
