GUJRANWALA, Sept 6: Farmers of flood affected areas have expressed their concern over damage of paddy and fodder crops and urged the government to waive water cess and agriculture tax following declaring them calamity-hit.

At a meeting held here on Wednesday, farmers said a large area of Wazirabad, Sodara, Alipur Chattha, Mancher Chattha, Khankey Head, Wahando and Sadhoki was still inundated by water, damaging paddy, fodder and vegetable crops.

They resented that the government had spent millions of rupees on reconstruction of the Deg nullah in Wahando and fortified its banks, but the recent floodwater breached it from several places. As a result of which scores of acres of standing crops and their houses were damaged.

They said the administration had failed to provide any relief to flood-hit people.

They demanded that banks of almost all nullahs, canals and drains should be fortified.

They asked the government to waive all taxes in flood-hit areas.
