LAHORE, Sept 5: There will be no compromise on the preparation of authentic and credible electoral rolls in the country. This was stated by federal secretary for Election Commission Kanwar Mohammad Dilshad while presiding over a meeting of senior officers of the ECP here on Tuesday.
The meeting reviewed progress of distribution and collection of enrollment forms and termed it satisfactory. All provincial election commissioners informed the position of distribution and collection of forms meant for obtaining particulars of voters.
It was stated that the enumeration staff had so far distributed 20,476,005 forms. They had also collected 11,820,732 forms duly filled by the people.
The Punjab election commissioner said there were 10.1 million households in the province where 12,592,408 forms were distributed and 7,467,337 retrieved by the end of last month.
The Sindh election commissioner said 4,179,819 forms were distributed in the province and 2,506,529 retrieved. There were 6,100,000 households in the province.
The NWFP election commissioner said 2,808,684 forms were distributed out of which 1,386,494 were retrieved. There were 2,709,465 households in the province.
The Balochistan election commissioner said there were 1,003,908 households in the province. As many as 895,094 forms were distributed and 460,372 retrieved.
The meeting was informed that by the end of last month, the overall retrieval of the forms was over 60 per cent all over the country.
He said the chief election commissioner had emphasised that frequent visits should be made by field officers to the areas of their jurisdiction for making the fresh electoral rolls without any hindrance.
He said the chief election commissioner had also ordered that all assistant registration officers and supervisors should immediately start verification of the retrieved forms. The already established complaint centres should maintain full record of the complaints received and disposed of by the officers concerned. —Staff Reporter
