ISLAMABAD, Feb 11: The special investigation team inquiring into the mysterious abduction of Daniel Pearl has arrested a mobile phone dealer on Monday, who had allegedly sold phones used by the Kidnappers.

The team had found a clue to dealer Abdul Majid, whose office is at the Bank Road Rawalpindi, after interrogating the four suspects already in police custody.

In the meanwhile, a Judicial Magistrate Abdul Qayum sent two accused in the abduction— Usman Rana and Saleem Ahmed— to the judicial lock up at Adiala Jail after the duration of their physical remand ended on Monday.

Two more accused Nasir Mehmood and Ijaz, arrested by the I/9 police from Murree later last week, were scheduled to be produced before the same court.

ANOTHER SUSPECT: Detention of Syed Mubarak Shah Gillani, a suspect in Pearl’s kidnapping, was challenged in the Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi Bench, on Monday.

Syed Shafaat Gillani, son of Mubarak Gillani, in a writ petition requested the court to direct the State to produce the detainee in person, and set him free. The petitioner also prayed that items /documents taken into possession from Ghari Habib Ullah be returned.

The petition under Article 199 of the Constitution of Pakistan seeks for a direction that Syed Mubarak Gillani be produced before the court.
