Oil discovery

NEW YORK, Sept 5: Three energy companies, US-based Chevron Corp. and Devon Energy, and Norway’s Statoil, announced on Tuesday a promising oil find in the Gulf of Mexico which they called a “significant discovery”.

The three companies, led by Chevron, have been hunting for new oil deposits in the ocean floor off the US state of Louisiana.

“The test was conducted during the second quarter of 2006 and was designed to evaluate a portion of the total pay interval. During the test, the well sustained a flow rate of more that 6,000 barrels of crude oil per day,” Chevron said in a statement.—AFP
