KARACHI, Sept 1: The city government will publicise rates of essential commodities through daily newspapers from Sept 10 to curb the ongoing practice of overcharging and keep the prices stable.

This decision was taken at a meeting presided over by City Nazim Mustafa Kamal here at the CDGK Secretariat on Friday.

The meeting further decided that a joint meeting of the magistrates of the city government and trade unions' representatives would be summoned to discuss ways and means to stabilise prices of the commodities as well as problems being faced by traders and shopkeepers. However, after all the necessary arrangements magistrates of the city government would take legal action to maintain prices and conduct surprise raids in different areas of the city.

The meeting further decided to appoint a protect director for Surjani Town housing scheme in order to accelerate pace of development work in the area.

It was also decided that digital data of all the employees of the city government would be prepared so that modern technologies could be used for regularity and punctuality.

On the occasion, the city nazim directed DO Human Resource Management Masood Alam to start work on a computerised management system with the help of the city government’s IT department to prepare required system on the pattern of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The DO was further directed to link all the city government networks with the central computerised management system so that attendance as well as ghost employees could be pointed out.

The meeting also directed all the EDOs to get data forms of their subordinates filled up at the earliest and submit the same to the IT department within the next two weeks.

It was also informed that the project of establishing model schools in the metropolis, divided into three phases, was in its final stage. Speaking on the occasion, the city nazim directed the meeting to construct boundary walls and install boards on the city government’s property, on all those plots vacated from encroachments.

He directed that land be allocated for warehouses near the land set aside for truck stand at Northen Bypass and the same should be included in the master plan so that warehouses were shifted from city's congested areas.

Mr Kamal directed that consultants be contacted for bringing the old machinery of slaughter house into use. He said steps be taken for supply of clean meat to citizens and a veterinary doctor be appointed in every town to check illegal slaughtering.

He pointed out that the Taameer-i-Karachi Programme had been separated from works and services department to accelerate the pace of work on city-wide uplift activities and the KBCA's senior officer Rauf Akhtar Farooqi had been given additional responsibility in this regard while EDO works and services would monitor the routine works.—PPI/APP
