QUETTA, Aug 30: Activists of the four-party Baloch Alliance blocked highways in the province to protest against the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti while Quetta remained calm but tense on Wednesday.
The Quetta-Karachi routes were blocked at Mastung and Hub bridge, while Quetta-Nushki highway, Quetta-Sibi road and the coastal highway were blocked at several points.
A Baloch Alliance spokesman announced that the protest would continue until the government handed over the body of Nawab Bugti to heirs.
Reports reaching from Khuzdar said that people attending ghaibana namaz-i-janaza of Nawab Bugti in the town later turned violent. They attacked various buildings, damaging two shops, a bank, Government Degree College and the office of a pro-Musharraf Pakistan Workers Party.
A branch of the agriculture bank was damaged at Wadh and protesters ransacked the tehsil and union council offices in Naal and Chagai, respectively.
In Quetta, youths burnt tyres on Sariab and Sabzal roads. The business community and transporters kept shops closed or vehicles off roads. Attendance in offices was negligible.
