Little choice for TV viewers

LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), Aug 28: Thousands of people of Landi Kotal are deprived of additional television channels as the lone TV booster installed in the area offers only the national hook-up.

The 100 watts transmitter was installed at Top Sar in 1990 which telecast PTV-1 programmes for 19 hours. Initially, the transmitter was installed in a mobile van, but was later moved to a building.

A PTV employee, Mustehseen Ullah, posted at the booster, told Dawn that the transmitter had become rusty and it was almost impossible to acquire its spare parts from the market. “We rely only on manual repair in the absence of spare parts”, he said.

The Landi Kotal booster is linked to the Cherat transmitter and most of the time the picture and sound quality received in Landi Kotal is poor.
