PESHAWAR, Aug 24: Thousands of patients of diarrhoea and respiratory tract infections have reported in hospitals over the past week in areas affected by the October earthquake, says the World Health Organisation.

In its 32nd weekly report about the health situation in the quake zone, the WHO said that of the 4,389 patients seen in Battagram district during the second week of the current month, 2,251 had acute watery diarrhoea and 1,104 suffered from acute respiratory infection. No death was reported from Battagram district because of the diseases, it said.

In Mansehra, 16,863 patients were examined, of whom 3,384 suffered from acute watery diarrhoea and 3,659 from respiratory infections, said the report. It said 15,879 patients had visited health facilities in the district during the last week. In Battagram, the number had decreased to 4,389 from 4,919, it said.

It said hygiene kits had been provided to lady health workers in Battagram to be distributed among the affected people.
