Baghwandas acting CJP

ISLAMABAD, Aug 23: Justice Rana Baghwandas, the senior most judge of the Supreme Court, took oath as acting Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) here on Wednesday. Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, a judge of the apex court, administered the oath of office to Justice Baghwandas at a ceremony held in the Supreme Court.

Justice Baghwandas will perform his duties as acting CJP during the absence of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry who has left for abroad.

Meanwhile, talking to newsmen after the oath-taking ceremony, the acting CJP said: “The apex court is working for the supremacy of the Constitution having powers for the execution of its orders/decisions besides powers regarding review of legislation passed by the parliament.”—APP
