Sponsors left in lurch

Published August 23, 2006

LONDON, Aug 22: The controversially abandoned Test match between England and Pakistan has left sponsors of English cricket in the lurch. The match should have ended with England team being presented with npower trophy for winning the series.

The presentation was cancelled and marketing opportunity for series sponsor npower was lost.

Vodafone, which sponsors England team and has its logo on side's shirts, was also planning to use presentation to promote its support for team and to provide media with images to remind public of its sponsorship.

It is understood that sponsors are consulting their lawyers and looking at fine print of their contracts to determine what action to take as a result of unprecedented situation surrounding the match.
