The police vehicle was on a routine patrol on the Hangu road and erected a temporary blockade for checking. They signalled the car to stop but one of the inmates started firing on the police party with Kalashnikov assault rifle. Head constable Umer Faraz and PTCL exchange guard Awan Ali suffered injuries.

They were taken to a hospital and were allowed to go home on Sunday after getting some treatment.

The accused were Mohammad Saeed, Shaukat Ali, Naimatullah, Qadir Khan and Inamullah, of Shahukhel area of the Hangu district.

They told interrogators at the Kohat Bureau of Investigation that they had unregistered weapons therefore opened fire on the police party to avoid arrest.
