ST JOHN’S Aug 18: West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has “given all practical support” to Stanford Twenty20 tournament organisers.

This is WICB contention in which regional governing body “noted with regret” recent public statement from creator and financier of tournament, Antigua-based Texan billionaire Allen Stanford, which suggests it has been less than supportive.

“It is, necessary to correct this misleading impression. WICB is on record as having acknowledged initiative's unparalleled contribution to rekindling interest in the game. But it must be understood that such arrangements cannot take precedence over established Future Tours Programme.”

WICB extended its congratulations to organisers on success of recently concluded tournament, but said at no time did it agree to possible dates of Stanford Twenty20 Super Stars match against South Africa.

A possible conflict with dates between this match and West Indies' tour of Pakistan overshadowed announcement of 20-member training squad from which final 11 will be chosen.

Super Stars match is scheduled for Nov 10 in Antigua, while reports say West Indies are due to arrive in Pakistan on Nov 7 – two days after Champions Trophy final.—Agencies
