ASI shot dead in encounter

OKARA, Aug 18: Seven highwaymen shot dead an ASI and injured two constables who were chasing them on a piece of information late Thursday night.

According to reports, Hujra Shah Muqeem police ASI Rao Ihsanullah along with his police driver and three constables was performing duty at the police post on Shergarh Road. On receiving a message, they started chasing the dacoits who near Chak 35/D shot at the police party.

As a result, ASI Rao Ihsanullah died on the spot while van driver (constable) Mukhtar Amin and head-constable Rai Zulfiqar suffered injuries.

DPO Dr Osman Anwar led a team to chase the dacoits who were later arrested.

Rao Ihsanullah was laid to rest on Friday afternoon after funeral prayers at Manzoor Shaheed police lines at the district courts complex.

A large number of people from all walks of life attended the funeral prayer.
