PESHAWAR, Aug 11: Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that Rs220 million have been allocated for construction of small dams in Karak district, while Rs22 million have been released for drinking water schemes.

Speaking at a public meeting in Takht-i-Nasrati, Karak, on Friday, he said the natural gas discovered in the district would be first provided to its residents.

The completion of the dams would enable people to irrigate their barren lands, he said.

MNA Maulana Shah Abdul Aziz, provincial Minister Malik Zafar Azam and District Nazim Rahmat Salam Khattak were also present.

Expressing grief over the loss of lives and property in recent floods, the chief minister said the provincial government was paying compensation to the affected people without any delay. He said the government had completed all the formalities in a week.

He said the compensation for the victims had been increased by making amendments to the concerned law. On the occasion, he gave away eight compensation cheques of Rs100,000 each among flood victims.

Mr Durrani directed the district governments to send estimates of the loss caused by the rains and floods to the provincial government in a week.

PRE-ARREST BAIL: A local court on Friday confirmed pre-arrest bail of a surgeon charged with illegal removal of a child’s kidney.

The court of additional district and sessions judge, Syed Zamurad Shah, observed that the inquiry report proved that the applicant, Dr Ali Gohar, had not removed a functional kidney of the boy.

The surgeon was charged in an FIR registered at police station University Town on June 27 after opinion was given by the legal branch of the police. The FIR was lodged by Ziarat Gul, father of the boy Ameenullah. The case was registered under section 324, 336 and 337 of Pakistan Penal Code.

The complainant alleged that he had taken his son to the said surgeon who operated the boy a few days ago at a private hospital in the jurisdiction of University Town police station. He alleged that later they had taken the boy to a government hospital, where they were informed that the doctor had removed one of his kidneys.

The applicant-doctor refuted these allegations and claimed that ultrasound examination of the boy was conducted by a known specialist here which proved that one of his kidneys was ‘dead’, adding that to further confirm the report another ultrasound was conducted which verified the same facts.
