GIK workshop on computing

SWABI, Aug 7: A five-day workshop on “High Performance Computing” began at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology here on Monday. The coordinator of the event, Dr Mohammad Abid, said that the workshop had been organised by the GIK Institute in collaboration with the University of Illinois, Chicago.

He said that experts in high performance computing would provide hands-on training on different topics, including parallel computing issues, Linux operating system environment and Beowulf cluster, message passing standards, shared memory programming and advanced parallel computing techniques.

“Since the practice is important for improving skills, this course will ensure involvement of each participant in learning the basics by solving practical examples and actual case studies.” The participants, he said, would be able to practice and apply their acquired knowledge.
