LAHORE, Aug 3: Justice Mohammad Akhtar Shabbir of the Lahore High Court on Thursday told Jauharabad police SHO to produce on August 15 a woman said to be living with her husband in subhuman conditions.
The court warned the SHO and the ASP concerned that if they failed to produce Sughra Bibi on the fixed date their salaries would be attached.
The court was proceeding in a writ petition through which Saleh Khatoon, the mother of Sughra Bibi, had submitted that her son-in-law was not allowing the parents to meet the woman, who was living in distressing circumstances.
The court had earlier directed the ASP and the SHO to produce the woman in the court after recording her mother’s statement.
The SHO, who appeared on behalf of the ASP, submitted that the police efforts to recover the woman were in progress but they had met no success so far.
The court also directed Khushab DPO to take the SHO and the ASP to task for failing in obeying a court order.
The petitioner submitted that Sughra was married to Sakhi Mohammad in June 2000, and they had two children. Of late, she had come to know that her son-in-law was maltreating her daughter. When she and her husband tried to meet their daughter, their son-in-law did not allow them to meet her.
The mother submitted that some locality residents informed her that Sughra was confined to a room and was being tortured. She was not allowed even to meet her children.
Saleh Khatoon also submitted that she approached the district and sessions judge with the complaint but he had taken no action on her petition.
